We are hosting our next session in the Shelter Standards Virtual Training Days!
Join us for a full day of presentations from organizations and health departments that will help you better support your clients that need additional supports for ongoing and complex mental health needs. These sessions are planned in partnership with the Shelter Standards program at NLHC, designed to compliment the recommended core competencies, and were based on feedback from shelter operators, managers and workers, along with various frontline and support roles, to support ongoing education needs.
Sessions are completely free to attend and are independent of each other – meaning you can sign up for all of them or individual ones that fit your learning needs.

Understanding the Role of the Psychiatric Assessment Unit within Mental Health Emergency Services
This presentation will provide an overview of the PAU’s role as a specialized mental health emergency service and its integration within the new Mental Health and Addictions Centre (MHAC). Attendees will gain an understanding of patient flow, the multidisciplinary team involved in care delivery, what individuals can expect when presenting to the PAU, common reasons for referral, and the criteria that guide admission and exclusion decisions.

This is great for centralized access, but may not always work for individuals living in a very rural/remote community, or those with limited to no access to transportation. Join us for a conversation around 811 and how to use it as a resource accessible to everyone in the province, regardless of what city, town, village or corner you may live in.

Changing the Way we look at Schizophrenia
We will have Susan Hyde, Executive Director of the Schizophrenia Society of NL, join us in a conversation to help guide and change the way we look at Schizophrenia. We will try to work through some of the barriers and stigma that comes with this diagnosis, along with learn about how the SSNL can help you support your clients living with Schizophrenia.
